Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about joining, snaps, the friends map and your privacy.
How do I join?
Friendo is in an invite-only test (a private beta). You need an invite link or QR code from a friend who is already a member, or a beta invite code from us. Open the link, type your e-mail address, enter the 6-digit code we e-mail you, then choose your name and username and give your date of birth.
Who can use Friendo?
Adults aged 18 and over. We ask for your date of birth when you join and don’t make an account for anyone who tells us they’re under 18. If you think someone using Friendo is under 18, please report them.
Can strangers find me?
No. There are no public profiles, no search by name and no “people you may know”. Someone can only send you a friend request if they type your exact username or use your invite link — and you still choose whether to accept.
Who can see my snaps?
Only the friends you tick when you send each one. Friendships are always mutual, and blocked people can never see anything from you.
What does “view once” do?
A view-once snap can be opened once by each friend. A few minutes after opening it disappears from their inbox, and once everyone has opened it (or it expires) the photo files are deleted from our server. It can’t stop screenshots or someone photographing the screen with another phone.
Does Friendo read the location from my photos?
No. Phones often hide GPS coordinates and camera details inside photo files. We remove all of that hidden information on our server and save a fresh copy before anyone can see it.
Is my location shared?
Not unless you switch it on. Location sharing is off for every new account. When you switch it on, you choose each friend who can see you, and whether they see your approximate area (about 1 km) or your precise spot.
Does Friendo track me in the background?
No. Friendo is a web app, so it can only send your position while the Friends map screen is open on your phone. We keep only your latest position — never a history — and delete it after the time you chose (a few hours at most), when you switch sharing off, or when you go ghost.
What is ghost mode?
One switch that hides you from everyone on the map, whatever you’ve chosen for each friend, and deletes your stored position.
What’s a poke?
A friendly nudge to a friend — they see “you poked them” in their notifications and can poke back. Only friends can poke each other, and there are limits so nobody can flood you.
How do I block or report someone?
Open their profile or a snap from them and choose Report or Block. Blocking stops them seeing you, sending you anything or adding you, and they aren’t told. Reports go to a real person, most serious first.
How do I delete my account?
Me → Delete my account. Your snaps, photos, friends, location and sign-ins are deleted straight away. You can download a copy of your data first from Me → Download my data.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes, in the web browser — there’s nothing to install from an app store. You can add it to your home screen for a full-screen feel.
Are there ads?
Never in the app. Some of our information pages (like this one) can show a banner ad, but only if you accept ads cookies.
